KTC, the World’s No. 1 Testing Certification Institute Leading the Way to the 4th Industrial Revolution
With the first re-inspection of electric vehicle chargers set to begin in 2027, the government and testing/certification agencies have started preparing the necessary groundwork. The goal is to check the margin of error in the measurement of charging amounts, which forms the basis for the calculation of charging fees, thereby enhancing user trust and reducing confusion among operators as they adapt to the new system.
On the 18th, the Korean Testing Certification Institute (KTC) held the first event of its local briefing sessions on the electric vehicle charger re-inspection system at the Korea Association of Standards and Testing Organizations in Seocho-gu, Seoul.
This event was hosted by the National Institute of Technology and Standards under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy and was organized by KTC. As electric vehicle chargers are regulated as legal measuring instruments, the first batch subject to re-inspection will arise from 2027. The briefing was arranged to share essential preparatory matters with stakeholders, including charging service operators, charger manufacturers/importers, and maintenance companies, in anticipation of the system’s implementation.
During the event, the National Institute of Technology and Standards outlined the direction of policies for the re-inspection system, while the Korea Association of Standards and Testing Organizations provided a response guide for charging operators. Korea Testing Laboratory presented on-site re-inspection procedures and preparation items for companies. Korea Testing & Research Institute for Chemical Convergence explained measurement error inspection theory and key points of confirmation, and KTC described the direction for applying the cumulative power comparison-based re-inspection test method.
A KTC official stated, “Re-inspection of EV chargers is a process to verify whether the chargers are accurately measuring the actual amount of power supplied. As the charging amount is directly related to user fees, management of measurement error is a core factor in determining the reliability of charging infrastructure.”
At this session, practical guidance was provided on the cumulative power comparison-based re-inspection method, a technical issue, and industry opinions were collected.
President Seongil Ahn of KTC remarked, “For the 2027 re-inspection system for electric vehicle chargers to be stably established on-site, it is essential for businesses to make prior preparations.
