Cheongju Partners with Ten Innovation Institutions to Attract National Strategic Industry Projects
Cheongju City is establishing a cooperative framework with regional innovation institutions, including the Korean Testing Certification Institute, to attract national projects in advanced strategic industries such as semiconductors, secondary batteries, and biotechnology.
On September 2, Cheongju City signed a memorandum of understanding with ten innovation institutions at Jikji Hall in the city’s temporary government building.
The agreement is titled the “Memorandum of Understanding for the Development of Advanced Strategic Industries and Mutually Beneficial Cooperation in Cheongju.”
Participating institutions include the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, the Korean Testing Certification Institute, the FITI Testing & Research Institute, the Korea Basic Science Institute, the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, the Osong Medical Innovation Foundation, the Korea Institute of Ceramic Engineering and Technology, the Korea Testing & Research Institute, Chungbuk Technopark, and the Chungbuk Bio Industry-Academic Convergence Institute.
Under the agreement, Cheongju City and the participating institutions will jointly plan projects for national government and public-sector funding programs.
They will also cooperate in attracting national projects in advanced industries that will drive Cheongju’s future growth, including semiconductors, secondary batteries, and biotechnology.
The institutions will jointly utilize their research and development capabilities and testing and evaluation infrastructure.
Through this cooperation, they plan to resolve technical difficulties encountered by regional companies during technology development and commercialization while supporting the validation and market entry of new technologies.
The Korean Testing Certification Institute will use its accumulated testing and certification expertise and evaluation infrastructure to help regional companies secure product reliability and strengthen their technological competitiveness.
The Institute will also cooperate with regional innovation organizations to strengthen the framework connecting corporate research and development achievements with testing, evaluation, certification, and commercialization.
The agreement is particularly meaningful because it brings together the research and development, testing and certification, business support, and commercialization capabilities of the participating institutions.
The partnership is expected to improve the quality of national project planning and expand the foundation for the growth of Cheongju’s advanced strategic industries.
Cheongju Mayor Jang-seop Lee stated that cooperation among the institutions would support technological innovation and the growth of regional companies.
He added that the city would establish an industrial ecosystem that generates new investment and employment, positioning Cheongju as a leading hub for advanced industries.
